Keep Your Weight Loss From Hitting a Plateau by Fooling Your Metabolism

By James Steele

If you're like most people out there, no doubt you've tried various diets to different degrees of success. You probably lost some weight, got to a certain point and then, regardless of what you tried, couldn't lose any more. This plateau is hit by almost everyone and is common amongst all the various weight loss programs. You cannot prevent the plateau problem if you don't discover how to fool your metabolism.

You most likely have already hit the plateau at least once--in fact, it has most likely caused a frustrating end to more than one diet program. The plateau is an unusual phenomenon and it happens to even the most successful dieters when they arrive at the third or fourth week of their diet programs. Up to that point weight is coming off and then it simply quits, and absolutely nothing works to keep the body shedding weight. This is the body responding to the things you're putting it through. Your body decreases your rate of metabolism when you arrive at this point since it wants to protect you from accidental starvation. What this does, then, is keep your body from shedding any more excess weight.

This is the reason people stop trying to shed pounds because, this plateau keeps them from thinking that doing so is achievable. This is exactly what causes a lot of people to start eating again and they often gain back more weight than they lost to start with. The way to prevent this is simply by using a diet where you move calories. What you want to do is eat a different number of calories each day, which purportedly helps you fool your metabolism. If this works on your body it will not enter "protective" mode. This can keep your body's metabolism rolling at its current rate instead of slowing down and you'll keep on shedding pounds. As you get to this point, you have passed the plateau and your diet will continue to work the way that it was supposed to.

It isn't hard to work this plan into your daily schedule. One of the most widely used techniques of calorie shifting is the 14 day method. In this method, you stick to your diet for eleven days and then on the 12, 13 and 14th days you try to eat the things you truly want to eat. You can switch your foods during the day and deceive your metabolism and then for three days eat what you wish to eat and stop the plateau. This actually also keeps you from becoming frustrated at a rigid regimen with your eating. Just keep on repeating the fourteen days until you've achieved your weight loss targets.

The 2 day plan is yet another excellent plan in which you eat as usual for one day and then cut your calories by 20% all the way up to 35%. You do this every 2 days for as long as it takes you to achieve your weight loss objectives. It is a program that you need to try, as it could be exactly what can get you past your plateau, to where you will get rid of all the weight you'd like.
